About the Arts Council

The Talbot County Arts Council is a nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to provide funding and other assistance for arts programs, arts organizations, and arts education in Talbot County. It is funded annually by a community arts development grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, supplemented by grants from the Talbot County Council and the Towns of Easton and St. Michaels. The Arts Council has made grants totaling $850,000 since its inception in 1987, almost all of which were matched dollar-for-dollar by the receiving nonprofit organization or school.

Regular grants are announced each February, with an application cutoff of March 31 for programs during the following fiscal year (July through June). Artist-in-Education grants for school programs are announced each August for programs during the coming school year. Requests for mini-grants between $100 and $500 may be submitted by the end of any month for consideration during the following month.

The Arts Council also sponsors a biennial Outstanding Arts Educator award and an annual summer arts scholarship program for high school students.
